The CA-IS2092A family of devices is galvanically-isolated RS-485 transceivers with built-in isolated DC-DC converter. It eliminates the need for a separate isolated power supply in space constrained isolated designs.
The transceivers have the logic input and output buffers separated by a silicon oxide (SiO2) insulation barrier that provides up to 2.5kVRMS (60 seconds) of galvanic isolation and ±150kV/μs typical CMTI. Isolation improves data communication by breaking ground loops and reducing noise, especially where there are large differences in ground potential between ports. An integrated DC-DC converter generates the 3.3V or 5V operating voltage for the cable-side.
The CA-IS2092A provides half-duplex transceivers. This device provides a slow slew rate to minimize EMI and reflections, allowing for error-free data transmission up to 0.5Mbps. The individual logic supply input is compatible with logic levels from 2.5V to 5.5V on the logic input lines.
The CA-IS2092A device is available in LGA16 package and operates over -40°C to +125°C temperature range. The CA-IS2092A transceivers find applications across various sectors such as industrial automation equipment, solar inverters, motor drivers, and building automation systems.

Optimized CA-IS2092A Transceiver PCB Design and Layout
The CA-IS2092A is ultra-small, complete galvanically-isolated RS-485/RS-422 transceiver. An integrated DC-DC converter generates a 3.3V or 5V operating voltage for the cable-side and can deliver up to 100mA of load current. This device includes an integrated micro-transformer. The internal DC-DC converter operates up to 25MHz switching frequency because of the smaller transformer-size and power transmission limitation.
The high di/dt and dv/dt resulting from the high-frequency switching operation of the on-chip transformer can generate electromagnetic interference in the range of 30MHz to 1GHz. This application note provides procedures and design tips for minimizing the EMI interference and maximizing the performance of CA-IS2092A based design. A reference design is provided as a PCB layout example that passed the test according to EN55032 Class-B standard for the CA-IS2092A.
